HANGZHOU — Between Stillness and Life

“A personal photographic essay about a city experienced from within.”

SCROLL

This is not a guide to Hangzhou. It is a record of how the city became part of my life.

HANGZHOU began as a way of paying closer attention to the city in which I live. Rather than trying to document Hangzhou completely, I photograph fragments: a gesture, a reflection, a quiet landscape, a traditional form, changing weather or a familiar place briefly transformed by light. Over time, these photographs became more than separate images. Together, they formed a personal visual diary — a record of how an unfamiliar city slowly became part of my everyday life and memory.
